Beyonce to be studied as a Course in the University.

Queen Bee has joined other celebrities including Oprah and husband Jay Z, (who has a Georgetown University sociology course named after him), who are studied in the University. The course is called Politicizing Beyonce and can be taken at Rutgers University in New Jersey.

The University’s Department of Women’s and Gender Studies will be exploring the social & cultural significance of the songstress’s music and image.

The course will allow fans to explore Beyonce's alter ego Sasha Fierce, and debate the extent of control she has over her own image. They will also debate whether her red hot persona is an outlet of female sexual empowerment or merely complying with western gender stereotypes.
"This isn’t a course about Beyonce’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend. She certainly pushes boundaries. While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona.’ Kevin Allred, the person in charge of the course at Rutgers University said

Man put up Seven Children for Sale

It was like a scene from a Nollywood movie recently in Owerri, Imo State capital when a father tied his seven children, including his triplet, to a wheelbarrow and was heading to an unknown destination before officials of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development stopped him.It was observed that the 44-year-old man simply identified as Israel Dike is a native of Odenkume, Obowo Local Government Aarea of Imo State, but resides in Ugwu Ekwema, Egbu Road, Owerri. The children’s hands were firmly tied to a wheelbarrow while the man was soliciting for buyers for the children, saying he could no longer fend for them.A staff of the ministry told newsmen in Owerri that, “Following a tip off, a high powered team led by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Nma Onyechere, quickly went and rescued the children. Apart from disclosing that he planned selling some of them with a view to enabling him take proper care of others, Dike equally lamented that Governor Rochas Okorocha put him in the present predicament.“Owelle Okorocha is the cause of what I am passing through today. He made me a promise in the past and has failed to redeem it till today,” Dike said.Speaking to newsmen at the scene, the Commissioner described Dike as a “depressed man, who is mentally derailed.”While urging Dike’s wife to go for family planning, the Commissioner however promised that government would carefully ascertain the level of the man’s mental problem.Onyechere told newsmen that the Ministry would take up the issue.

LASU ON FIRE AGAIN.

The Lagos State University authority has postponed the rain semester 2012/2013 examination and shut down the institution indefinitely, over protest by no fewer than 1,292 students of the university.

During the protest, the car of the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. John Obafunwa was stoned and he was reportedly rushed out of the faculty of sciences.

The students who took part in the protest, alleged that they were not allowed to register for the rain semester examination.

The decision to shut down the university was contained in an official bulletin posted on the school premises.

The bulletin read, “In the view of the violent protest by some affected students of LASU over the closure of the university portal for registration of courses for rain semester 2012/2013 examination, the university management has decided to shut down the university indefinitely.

“Also, examinations have been put off till further notice. With this decision, students of the university are expected to vacate the university premises until further notice.”

An official who decides to be anonymous, says she blames the Management of the institution for collecting part payment from students and then shut down the portal.
Lets hope something is done quickly about this issue.

The grass isn't greener

Hi! I think this is a good read.  Enjoy....

The Grass Isn't Greener

Thursday, 23 January2014 00:14 '...Encourage and help each other...' 1 Thessalonians 5:11 CEV

Micca Monda Campbell writes: 'Have you ever secretly compared your spouse to another man or woman...or wished they were more thoughtful...more spiritual...a better dresser? If you have, let me reassure you the grass isn't greener on the other side. That man doesn't clip his toenails either...and that woman doesn't rub her husband's feet while feeding him grapes! Our spouses are the people we fell in love with, and often they just need a little encouragement. Instead of comparing and complaining...nurture your mate in the areas they need it most...I heard about a good-looking millionaire who married a plain-looking woman. It was the talk of the town. Why did he marry her? She's not up to his standard. It won't last! When they came back from an extended honeymoon, it looked like the millionaire was with another woman...one glowing with confidence and poise. Now that's the kind of wife he deserves, declared the town loud-mouth. Then she noticed something interesting: it was the same woman -completely transformed! Her new husband had taken her away, encouraged her...and built up her self-confidence till she started to see in herself what he'd always seen. So instead of walking around on your neighbour's grass, fertilise your own by looking for the good in your spouse. Speak encouraging words...acknowledge their efforts to improve...become their cheerleader. The Bible says, "Love...protects...trusts...hopes...perseveres." (1 Corinthians 13:4;7 NIV) Instead of making comparisons, ask God to help you see your partner like you once did.'

For falling in Love, You are sentenced to being raped.

Police in India's West Bengal have held 13 people in connection with a gang rape of a woman allegedly on orders of village elders who objected to her relationship with a man.

The 20-year-old woman has been admitted to a hospital in a critical condition.

Unofficial courts in India's villages often sanction killings of couples deemed to have violated local codes.

Scrutiny of sexual violence in India has grown since the 2012 gang rape and murder of a student on a Delhi bus.

The government tightened laws on sexual violence last year after widespread protests following the attack.

But violence and discrimination against women remain deeply entrenched in India's staunchly patriarchal society.

Police said the latest incident on Monday night was prompted by the relationship between a tribal woman and a non-tribal man belonging to an adjoining village in Birbhum district.

'Crime of falling in love'

"The relationship was going on for almost five years. When the man visited the woman's home on Monday with the proposal of marriage, villagers spotted him and organised a kangaroo court. During the 'proceedings' both the couple were made to sit with hands tied," Birbhum police chief C Sudhakar told the BBC.

He said the headman of the woman's village fined the couple 25,000 ($400; £240) rupees for "the crime of falling in love".

The man paid up, but the woman's family were unable to pay, police said.

The headman, who is a distant relative of the woman, then allegedly ordered the rape, Mr Sudhakar said.

"Her family could not pay, so go enjoy the girl and have fun," the headman reportedly told villagers, according to a complaint filed by the woman's family.

Police have arrested 13 men, including the headman, in connection with the incident.

Although the incident took place on Monday night, the family of the woman gathered courage to go to the police on Wednesday afternoon. The woman was admitted to a hospital only on Wednesday night.

In 2010, village elders in Birbhum had ordered at least three tribal women to strip and walk naked in front of large crowds in the Indian state of West Bengal, police say.

The women were being punished for "having close relations" with men from other communities.

Correspondents say rape is a common occurrence in India with many cases going unreported.

Although India has tightened its anti-rape laws and society is more openly discussing cases of violence against women, women across India still live with the daily fear of sexual assault and victims still often have to deal with police apathy.

Jungle justice for two Young Men who Stole in Lagos.

Two unidentified persons were stoned to death in the Sabo, Yaba area of Lagos State after being apprehended by youths for allegedly robbing a resident of his phones.

Punch reports that their correspondent, who visited McNeil Road, where the incident occurred, learnt that the alleged robbers attacked a 79-year-old man, Pa Emmanuel Thomas, in his apartment around 4am on Saturday. The elderly man told PUNCH Metro that the robbers beat up his guest and demanded that he gave them all his money. He said:
“I was in my room and a guest was in my sitting room. But because there was no electricity, I opened the main doors for cross ventilation. A few minutes later, two young guys barged into the house.“One of them slapped my female guest who was in the sitting room and snatched her phone and charger, the other guy told me to give him all my money and I told him all I had was N30 which was kept inside my Bible. They also snatched my telephone and wristwatch.”

Prior to the robbery, youths in the area had been suspicious of the alleged robbers, wondering what the strange men wanted on their street at that odd hour. One of the youths, who craved anonymity, said:
“Around 3.30am, I was returning from a carnival when I noticed two strange faces on Little Road. When the guys saw me, they pretended to be fixing an abandoned bus and were talking as if they were a bus driver and his conductor waiting for daybreak. When I walked past, they continued to roam the street, so I informed one of my friends and together, we tailed them. Suddenly, they entered Pa Thomas’s house and then I heard the elderly man screamed for help. We quickly surrounded the house and dared the robbers to come out. When they saw that they were trapped, one of them jumped the fence into the next compound which is on Little Road. I was able to arrest one, while the other one escaped.”

PUNCH Metro learnt that the arrested robber was beaten up to a pulp. Then an hour later, the second robber, who hid inside another compound, was exposed by a resident and was also handed over to the irate youths.
The youths beat up the two robbers mercilessly.
When the residents were asked why they did not involve the police, one of them said:
“On that day, there was a serious crisis at a neighbouring community, Iwaya, and most of the policemen from Sabo Division had diverted all their attention to the area. Also, these robbers usually hang around a brothel located on a neighbouring street. If we hand them over to the police, they will be released and come back to terrorise us.”

The alleged robbers, who were still alive, were stripped naked and dumped on the Sabo end of the Herbert Macaulay Way, about 200 metres from the Sabo Police Division but passers-by pelted the alleged robbers with stones until they died.
A resident of McNeil, Sola, said:
“It was not our intention to kill the robbers, we only beat them up and dumped them by the road side. However, when passers-by learnt of what they had done, many of them picked up rocks and stoned them to death.”

By the time policemen arrived around 9am, the alleged robbers were already dead. Attempts to contact the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, were not sucessful as calls made to her telephone rang out, while a text message sent to the phone was also not replied as of the time of going to the press.
